We ask that you should arrive on Friday 2:00pm onwards and should have departed the cottage by 10:00am on the Friday of departure to allow our cleaning team to arrive and clean the cottage before the next guests arrive. Sometime during the weekend of your arrival one of us will pay you a visit to personally welcome you and check everything is to your liking.  We will also ask for the the remainder of the bill to be paid. (see payments page).  Well behaved dogs are welcome and will be spoilt for good walking opportunities!  The cost is £3 per night or £20 for the week.  Please don’t leave them locked in the cottages unsupervised, unless you bring a dog cage.  Electric, heating and linen are all included in the weekly rate. If you require a extra bed with a duvet this can be supplied for £25 per week.  In addition a high chair and cot can also be supplied.  All the cottages are non smoking.

During the months of October through to Easter coal and logs can be supplied for a small charge.  Also during these months we offer short breaks which start at 75% of the full weekly cost.  Contact us by the contact form or email for a final price.

In the Old Stable at Lower Farmhouse, Langton Herring there is a washing machine and tumble dryer operated via an honesty box.  We also have created a wifi hotspot and due to the fact that all the cottages are unfortunately in a mobile dead zone, we have a telephone again run via an honesty box.  Incidently mobile reception can be obtained by climbing any hill surrounding the cottages or going to the top end of Langton Herring.  Also in the Old Stable, you will find a table tennis table, table football, games and a good selection of novels.

If you would like a daily newspaper delivered to your door, please contact Martin Jolliffe on 01305 871571.  He normally delivers at about 0800 each morning. Also, if you don’t fancy cooking, Marshall’s Catering will deliver meals or cook at the cottage. Call 01305 871228.

Please note at present we do not accept credit cards.  Payments can be made via cash, cheque or internet banking (email us for bank details.)  Paypal is available for Swallows, Sycamores, Willows and Brambles.

About Us and General Information

Character Farm Cottages is personally run by Ann Mayo and her daughter Jane Elwood who take very great pride in ensuring the country cottages are “home from home” allowing you to have the perfect self catering holiday.  Jane also runs the farm with her father, Rob. The farm is a mixed farm consisting of a dairy, beef cattle and arable.  During the summer months, many of you will appreciate the sight of cows running the surrounding fields - a sight unfortunately becoming less frequent these days.  Many of our younger guests love taking the opportunity to help feed the young calves and pay a visit to the dairy to see where our milk comes from.
